Garlic is now starting examined again by the experts, and in fact recent evidence stating garlic efficacious against cancer and heart disease. Dr. Richard Rivlin, of New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Health records of China, India, Egypt, Greece and Italy have long used garlic as medicine, Dr. Rivlin explained. They say that garlic is able to provide power and restore the power of one's physical health. Hippocrates also recognize the benefits of garlic as a drug component.
Rivlin believes a moment of garlic can be used as food for preventing various diseases which will arise or as a therapeutic drug. Rivlin also said that garlic can be used as a complementary medicine, not an alternative medicine.
Results of a recent study published in the Journal of Nutrition says the efficacy of garlic is as follows:
- Selenium, a component contained in garlic, is very useful as an anti-cancer drug.
- Garlic helps statins work to destroy the blockage of fat in patients with coronary heart disease.
- Garlic has the potential to lower cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and anti-oxidants. It also helps to reduce levels of homocysteine, which is an amino acid as a sign of coronary heart disease.
- Garlic efficacious as "inhibit platelet aggregation" that greatly affects the occurrence of cardiovascular disease by pressing the action of calcium.
- Garlic can reduce the occurrence of precancerous lesions in the stomach.
- Garlic can suppress the growth of pre-cancerous lesions in the colon.
